WHAT IS THE NCGLL?
The NCGLL is the North Carolina Girls Lacrosse League. It was formed in the winter of 2014 by Nikki Schwob and Katy O’Mara in an effort to promote and grow the sport of girls lacrosse in North Carolina. The NCGLL is responsible for running a spring league for recreation programs in central North Carolina and beyond. In its inaugural season (spring 2015), the Association consisted of 9 Member Programs.
WHAT DOES OUR CLUB RECEIVE FOR BECOMING A MEMBER OF NCGLL?
The NCGLL handles all scheduling for member teams for the spring season. We maintain a website to post schedules along with field locations and directions. In the past, the League also organized a season-ending “All-Star Game” where nominated players from all programs come together to compete in a showcase game. More programs and/or services will continue to be added as the League grows.
WHO CAN JOIN?
The majority of the NCGLL members are private clubs that have recreation programs located in central North Carolina. This is not a league for travel or Middle School teams. All member organizations must be approved by the NCGLL Board and abide by the NCGLL Rules.
ARE THERE DUES OR COSTS WITH BECOMING A MEMBER?
Member Organizations pay a scheduling fee to the Scheduler who currently also serves as President of the League. Other fees associated with spring lacrosse are for our Officials Assignor and payments for officials for games.
HOW MANY DIVISIONS ARE THERE IN THE LEAGUE?
There are 4 divisions that are based on birth date according to US Lacrosse Guidelines (8U, 10U, 12U, 14U). The League follows the US Lacrosse Age Verification process to create divisions.
WHAT IF MY PROGRAM DOESN’T HAVE ENOUGH PLAYERS TO MAKE A TEAM THAT FITS IN ONE OF THOSE DIVISIONS?
In an effort to help grow the game of lacrosse, the NCGLL will consider allowing players to compete in divisions outside of their division according to birth date. The League Board may allow players to play up in age group if it is necessary to create a team, or if it is developmentally appropriate. Conversely, the League Board tries to avoid having players play down in age group.
WHAT RULES WILL MEMBER TEAMS ABIDE BY?
NCGLL Member Teams shall abide by the rules proposed by US Lacrosse and the Youth Girls' Rulebook with some modifications voted on by the NCGLL BOD. Please see our RULES PAGE for more.
